On this tour through the neighbourhood of San Sebastián, we'll walk through the streets of Santa Cruz de La Palma to discover the island's capital's most unknown side.

Description

After meeting at the indicated time in Plaza Van Dale, we'll set off to explore and discover the best-kept secrets of Santa Cruz de La Palma. Did you know that its old town has been declared a Historic-Artistic Site?

We'll head first to the emblematic Chile Nitrate Sign, an Art Deco jewel dating back to 1929. You'll be surprised by its perfect state of preservation, as it's made of ceramic, and looking at it closely is a real journey back in time to the advertising world of the time!

Then, we'll go to the famous Ascensor de La Luz to go up to the San Telmo neighbourhood, where we'll see the San Telmo hermitage, Plaza del Tanquito and Plaza del Dornajo. The latter will connect us with the San Sebastián neighbourhood and the old water tanks. We'll talk about how they worked while they were active until the 20th century.

Next, we'll continue walking to reach the charming Hermitage of San Sebastian, a great example of Renaissance architecture in the Canary Islands. Inside, we'll see an imposing painting that crosses the ceiling and arches. Our next stop is the church of Santo Domingo, one of the largest historic buildings in Santa Cruz de La Palma, built in the 17th century.

We'll also visit two institutions of great cultural importance in the capital of the beautiful island: the Teatro Circo de Marte and the building of the Real Sociedad Cosmológica.

Finally, we'll walk along calle Virgen de la Luz to reach the Mercado Municipal de Abastos, where we'll conclude this 1.5-hour tour.
