Monastery of Liébana + The Picos de Europa
Tour Details
Once we've picked you up at the time indicated outside the bus station in Potes, we'll leave this town behind and set off towards the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana. Let's go!
After driving just 3 km (1.9 miles), we'll arrive at the monastery, surrounded by forest and practically hidden between the folds of the Viorna mountain. Did you know that this is one of the four holy places for Christianity? This temple originates from the 6th century, and according to traditions, inside is the largest fragment of the Vera Cruz.
Here, we'll make our first stop of the day to visit its interior and see the relic of the Lignum Crucis as well as the tomb of Santo Toribio. Additionally, we'll head to the viewpoint of the San Miguel hermitage, which is near the monastery, and from where we can marvel at the fantastic views of the mountains in the Picos de Europa and the town of Potes.
We'll continue our tour to Fuente Dé where we'll find the cable car to go up to the Picos de Europa. Once here, you'll have an hour and a half of free time. You'll have the chance to go up the cable car, which takes about 4 minutes and will take you to a height of 1,823 metres (5980 feet) above sea level. Or, if you prefer a different activity, you could go horse riding for an hour. A very fun activity in a beautiful setting!
After a total of 4 hours, we'll return to Potes and say goodbye at the initial meeting point.
