Silvia Tour + Visit to a Misak Community

  • 3 reviews | 23 travellers
This should be on everyones list of tours to do if staying in Popayan. Silvia iis interesting with a first view of the Misak people. The little shops are fascinating. Good viewpoint on a hill. Lunch at a nearby trout farm and then a visit to the Misak community about 15 mins from Silvia.to learn about the people and their beliefs and customs. Truly excellent. Traffic is horrible but small price to pay. Ensure you have an English speaking guide if you don’t speak spanish!

Silvia Tour + Visit to a Misak Community

We'll pick you up at 9:30 am at your hotel in Popayán and drive to the north of the department of Cauca. After an hour and a half's drive we'll arrive in Silvia, a town nestled in a valley of the Cordillera Central of Colombia.

At first sight, you'll be impressed by the green landscapes surrounding this Colombian municipality, which is known as the 'Switzerland of America'. We'll take a guided tour of Silvia, getting to know its main attractions, including the welcome sign, the Nuestra Señora de Chiquinquirá parish church and the market

At midday, we'll have a break to enjoy a typical lunch that includes a fish or meat dish, a side and a drink. We'll then depart for the region of Guambia, the region with the largest indigenous population in Colombia.

There we'll visit a Misak or Guambiana community, where you can meet its inhabitants and learn about their customs and traditional way of life. You'll be able to visit their sacred sites and have the chance to experience their traditional way of dressing.

Finally, we'll visit Miskitu university, where we'll learn about the characteristics of this institution oriented towards sustainable development and the arts such as music and dance.

Finally, we'll return to Popayán. Arrival at your hotel is scheduled for 5 pm.
