1 de enero, 2 de febrero... Maybe you know the song, maybe you don't. Either way, we'll all be singing along this July 7 for San Fermin! To start, we'll meet at 9:30 am on Calle Dos de Mayo in Pamplona. There we'll begin on a tour of Pamplona that will take us on a journey through key aspects of one of the most famous celebrations in Spain: San Fermin.
Once we've all met, we'll delve into the history of the patron saint of Navarra, including the origin of the festival celebrated in his honor and how it wins over the hearts of all who experience it. Just ask Ernest Hemingway!
We'll continue through all corners of Pamplona associated with San Fermin, learning about their history, like the Gas Corrals, the origin of the Troupe of Giants and Bigheads, or the reasons why the people of Pamplona dress in red and white during the festival.
Another one of the places we'll visit during the tour is the famous corrals of Santo Domingo, the point from where the Running of the Bulls will start. We'll even follow along the route that the runners take with the bulls, stopping at the most important points along the way!
On the final stretch of the tour, we'll head to the town square (Plaza del Ayuntamiento), where the Chupinazo takes place every June 6. Lastly, we'll pass by Plaza del Castillo and see Café Iruña, mentioned on numerous occasions by North American writer Hemingway in his novel Fiesta.
And because we have no other choice, we will all say goodbye at 11 am, singing the famous festival song, Pobre de Mí.
