Huelva Guided City Tour Itinerary

We'll meet at the train station at the time indicated to start this guided tour of Huelva. Aboard a bus, we'll explore the main sites of interest in the city.

Your local tour guide will point out Queen Victoria district, an unusual neighbourhood of homes built in the British-style at the start of the 20th century to house miners working for Rio Tinto, a British mining company.

The tour by bus will take us past Huelva Cathedral, on the site of the former chapel of the ancient Convent of La Merced, built in the 17th century under the orders of the Duke of Medina Sidonia. Still attached to the cathedral is the old convent building, which, throughout its history, has also acted a hospital. Today it is home to the central campus of the University of Huelva.

Your guided city tour will then take you to see Casa Colón, a symbol of the city's industrial and colonial heritage. Named after Christopher Columbus, the 19th century building was built as a hotel for Rio Tinto workers. Nowadays, it is a congressional palace and hosts the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival.

Reaching the historic centre of Huelva, your bus tour will come to an end. It's time to explore the city by foot on a guided tour, learning all about the history of this city in Andalusia. We'll discover its origins in the Provincial Museum, where we'll find an archaeological exhibition and uncover the importance of the past.

We'll stroll along the pedestrian walk to see Casa Colón and the monument of the Virgin of Rocío. Plus, we'll visit the church-museum of the Virgin of La Esperanza, and other key sites, like the Town Hall, near the Plaza de las Monjas, the Gran Teatro, and the Concepción Church.

To finish, we'll find Huelva's market and arrive at the Muelle del Tino, a historic pier formerly used to transport mining materials. Today, it's popular for fishing or simply for enjoying a stroll along the picturesque riverside.
