San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Guernica + Mundaka Tour

  • 458 reviews | 2,797 travellers
Adur, a guide of 10, we really liked the excursion, the only thing we didn't know was that you couldn't go up to the hermitage of San Juan. He told us that we should have received an email warning us and the truth is that I haven't received anything (but this didn't happen). It's his fault that he was a guide of 10 and he didn't make the excursion super enjoyable. Mundaca and Gernika are very cool and their explanations are phenomenal. And the bus is on time. The only drawback is not having information about the hermitage under construction. But I repeat that it lasted 10.

Description

At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the puppy floral sculpture at the Guggenheim Museum, and from there we'll make our way north.

After a journey of around 30 minutes, we'll arrive at San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, one of the most famous locations on the Basque Coastline. Once there, which. the Game of Thrones fans will recognize as Dragonstone, we'll climb 241 steps to the 10th-century hermitage that sits at the top of this 79 metre (259 feet) rock.

From the viewpoint situated at the foot of the hermitage, we'll take in some extraordinary views of the Bizkaia coastline. After enjoying the views, we'll leave San Juan de Gaztelugatxe behind and continue this trip, passing by Cape Matxitxako and the town of Bermeo.

Afterwards, we'll make a second stop in Mundaka. In this fishing town, famous for being a popular surfing destination, we'll take a stroll towards the harbour and the Church of Santa María. We'll also visit the Urdaibai Estuary viewpoint, to take in the views of the mouth of the Oca River, which flows into the Cantabrian Sea.

Next, we'll visit the village of Guernica to learn about the history of the Basque Country. We'll make our way towards the Guernica tree and learn about the tragic story of how this town was bombed during the Spanish Civil War. We'll also make a stop at a mural of one of Picasso's paintings.

Finally, we'll begin our return journey towards Bilbao, where we'll arrive back at the meeting point after around 6 hours together.
